Kazuo Tokito was a renowned Japanese-American flutist and piccoloist. Born in Sapporo, Japan, Kaz came to the U.S. to attend Interlochen Arts Academy, graduating in 1967. After earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in flute performances, he served as Assistant Principal for Flute and Piccolo with the Vancouver Symphony for several years before joining the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1981, where he played for 35 years until retiring in 2016. He was a longtime teacher at the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University. Kazuo Tokito passed away on December 28, 2024 at home in Cherry Hill, NJ.
